FREDDY'S RESCUE ROUNDUP
Making a Backup Copy~
--------------------
It is important to make a backup copy
of your Freddy's Rescue Roundup
diskette in case your original
diskette is lost or damaged.
You can make only one copy. Choose
the option "Make a Backup Copy" on the
Main Menu and follow the instructions
on the screen.
The Setting~
-----------
Freddy the Maintenance Man has
problems--cleanup problems. (Grumble,
grumble....) The old Cliff Dwellings
park in northern Arizona is about to
reopen. Freddy's job is to clean it.
Since the park has been closed,
roadrunners have taken it over. Now
Freddy must collect all the
roadrunners for their own protection
so they can be moved to safety.
Freddy's biggest problem is the
maintenance robots. He should have
tuned them up long ago. Now they
have gone berserk, compacting and
disposing of anyone they come across.
Freddy is the prime target.
The robots draw power from glowing
power pills. Fortunately, Freddy can
snuff out these power pills. Then
robots must search out a new power
source before they can move again--
(unfortunately, after Freddy...).
Although wearing the new, impervious
model of the "Maintenance Suit" and
able to fall great distances without
harm, Freddy faces other dangers,
including:
o Being hit by moving platforms
o Running out of time and supplies
o Being temporarily compacted
by the ever-lurking robots.
2
Freddy is very fast. He needs to be
fast, both to keep out of the way of
the robots and to get his work done
during his shift. Freddy isn't paid
overtime. (Grumble, grumble...) If he
runs out of time, Freddy moves on to
another area.
When Freddy is compacted (ouch!), he
must leave work temporarily to get
straightened out at a clinic.
Then--bandaged, rested and with new
supplies--he goes back to work.
Freddy gets five chances to finish the
cleanup work on each level.
How to Play~
-----------
Your task? Keep Freddy out of the way
of the maintenance robots while
collecting roadrunners and supplies.
To start the game, press Enter.
To move Freddy, use any of the
following keys:
Note: If you are left handed,
use the keys shown in parentheses.
Move right - Cursor Right (D key)
Move left - Cursor Left (A key)
Move up - Cursor Up (W key)
Move down - Cursor Down (X key)
Jump - Spacebar or \ (Same)
To make Freddy jump, press the
Spacebar or the backslash (\) at the
same time you press either Cursor Left
or Cursor Right. Freddy won't jump,
however, if he could hurt his head or
if he is at the top of a level.
If you press the Spacebar while Freddy
is standing on a section built with
large bricks, you create a hole. The
hole exists for only a few seconds
before being filled in again. No area
can have more than three holes at one
time. (Freddy must be careful not to
be in a hole when it is filled in!)
Freddy can also jump onto the moving
platforms and ride on them.
3
When Freddy has collected all the
roadrunners and supplies, he can
advance to the next cliff level via
the long-range transporters.
Freddy's Rescue Roundup contains 25
cliff levels, each with four different
areas, for 100 different screens.
Transporters
To move out of a dangerous situation
quickly, Freddy can use the white
local transporters. Pressing the
Spacebar when Freddy is inside a
transporter moves him instantly
to the other transporter.
Each area also has two long-range
transporters which carry Freddy to the
next area. Initially, one of the
transporters is broken and cannot be
used. When Freddy collects all the
objects in that area, the broken
transporter is repaired and painted
red, and can take Freddy to the
preceding area. The other transporter
takes him to the next area.
Freddy cannot move on to another level
to continue his cleanup work until all
the objects in all four areas of the
current level have been collected.

Timer Bars~
----------
Two timer bars appear at the bottom of
your screens. The red bar is a screen
timer and indicates the time allowed
for that area. When the bar runs
down, Freddy's time has run out.
However, Freddy gets another chance to
clean up the area and the time starts
over. If Freddy leaves an area before
finishing his work, the timer
continues for the new area.
The green bar is a supplies timer. It
represents Freddy's supply of food.
This bar runs down slower than the
screen timer and is reset only when
Freddy collects new supplies (two
cartons) or when he returns from a
visit to the clinic.
The Bottom Line~
---------------
The bottom line of the screen shows
you the following (from left to
right):
Your score
The number of chances Freddy has
left
Symbols warning you that time
and supplies are dangerously low
The level Freddy is on (1 to 25)
The level name (for example, Patio)
The area (1 to 4) of that level
Scoring~
-------
You win points for each roadrunner or
object you collect, from 1 point on
the practice level up to 200 points on
the advanced level.
Win bonus points for collecting all
objects in all four areas of a level.
